John Newmark lives in St. Louis County, Missouri, USA.  He has been active in the geneablogging community since 2007, maintaining a blog at TransylvanianDutch.  He has written poetry since his high school years, and has been performing at local open mics since 1993.

Some poets he considers inspirational include: Victor Hugo, Howard Nemerov, Billy Collins, Walt Whitman, Yehuda Amichai, and Edgar Guest.
